Airdrie Cornerstone
This client purchased a home near her current office with the ambition to rezone the property for commercial use and relocate her chiropractic clinic and other health-centered businesses to the area.
Located in in downtown Airdrie, the property bridges a residential neighbourhood to the west and north with commercial developments to the east, south, and northeast. This project took advantage of extensive public and private consultation to craft a building plan that would work for and with the surrounding community.
With the aim of helping to contribute to revitalizing the downtown area, the two-story commercial project on Main Street intersection is sensitive to the surrounding residential scale. It includes generous building setbacks with a building height that is lowered towards the neighbouring homes. The palette mirrors what is already prevalent in the downtown with two-tone stucco walls and rich cherry wood details throughout.
The design creates a small public plaza—a third space for the public—in front of the building with plantings, street furniture, signage, and festive ground coverings. Underground and grade-level parking will be available.
