Hertfordshire House
This new residence is located in Hertfordshire, England. As a conservation village, the character of the place is protected by the government, so we worked to meet both the desires of the client and the village guidelines.
Using local vernacular and building materials to influence the look of this contemporary, single-level home, we achieved that goal.
The clients have limited mobility, so the design integrates curved walls instead of right-angle corners, arthritis-friendly levers and pulls instead of doorknobs, and a sightline to the front door from nearly everywhere in the home. The H-shaped plan, glazed corners, and a series of cantilevered workspaces seamlessly connect the gorgeous outdoors to the lively inside living space.
