Pincher Creek
This project will see a new family home integrated into one of the most spectacular and powerful scenes in western Canada.
After camping for several years on a large tract of foothills land in the heart of Southern Alberta’s ranch country, our clients decided to build their family dream home in this natural getaway. Nestled between the hills high above the Castle River, the home will have an iconic, 180-degree view of the land.
The home will be a careful response to the distinct ecologies of the area such as the extreme Chinook winds that funnel through the flat site. The outdoor living space and fire pit will be nestled in the courtyard of the C-shaped home and a stone windbreak wall will hug the formal outdoor eating area.
The home will feature a trombe wall to provide passive heating and cooling during the year, angled south-facing roofs for optimal solar panel use, and a butterfly roof over the bedroom wing to provide grey water recycling. The home will be a stunning base for this active and outdoor-oriented family.
