Magda Gawlik
Owner + Creative Director
It started with watercolours and cold pressed paper…
From a young age Magda’s proclivity for painting and sewing fed her entrepreneurial instincts. She complimented her years in school and professional endeavours by creating watercolour cards and bespoke garments. These handcrafted pieces were labeled and sold with the company name, “Magda Made”. After attaining Planning and Architecture Degrees from Dalhousie University and studying abroad in Barcelona with Texas A&M University, Magda took on architectural placements with Moore Patterson Architects in Victoria, BC; Knox Bhavan Architects in London, UK; and Placeworks Design in Calgary, AB. These positive experiences helped her develop a passion for critical design and project management. In early 2016, Magda decided to take a deep dive back into entrepreneurial pursuits, his time, more formally: MMADE DESIGN was born. Magda enjoys working closely with clients, builders, and her peers on projects that range in size and character to make buildings that have clarity of form and detail, and are simple, elegant, and contemporary. Born and raised in Halifax, NS, Magda is a true water bug, evolving from a competitive swimming background into a love for water polo. Relaxing pursuits include painting and lovingly tending to her many plants. She is an avid traveller and outdoors person, usually with her dog Luna along for the fun, and is always looking for new adventures near and far. |
Jamie Leer
Design Associate
Jamie’s design work is more than just a job, it is an extension of a life-long devotion to learning and knowledge.
Growing up in Cochrane, nestled in the foothills of the Rockies, the stark and powerful landscapes provided a compelling backdrop to develop her eye for beauty, geometry, colour, and the schematics of the natural world. With a passion not only for the creative, but for the order and logic of math, Jamie began her post-secondary education in the mathematics program at Dalhousie University. She then switched paths to study architecture at Victoria University in stunning New Zealand before heading back to Dalhousie to pursue an undergraduate and graduate degree in architecture. Community design, along with modern architecture that is both friendly and functional are at the heart of her design style. Jamie can throw pots on a pottery wheel, has taken photography and installation art courses, and basically will get her hands dirty in any artistic pursuit available. She also complements her work at MMADE DESIGN with work at a local art gallery, where she displays her passion for the arts community. |
Kayleigh Suggett
Logistics Designer
Kayleigh’s life has always been intertwined with stories.
From childhood into adulthood, a good book has been a constant companion to her, and she began writing her own stories while still in high school. But to her, stories are more than just the books we read or the tales we write. Stories are lives, and even the most mundane life makes an absolutely captivating memoir because life is endlessly fascinating. It may seem like a strange connection to some, but this love of stories is what drew Kayleigh to a career in administration. Using her natural talents of organization, time management, and problem-solving, Kayleigh’s administrative talents provide the backbone to companies so that they can tell their stories in full. She revels in her ability to take care of the logistics so that there is room to dream bigger and achieve more. Kayleigh truly shines in collaborating with a close-knit team and relishes the chance to do more than typical administrative tasks, whether that is designing materials in Adobe Creative Cloud, using her writing skills to spruce up websites and newsletters, or formatting and editing documents. Born and raised in Calgary, Kayleigh enjoys singing with Mount Royal’s Kantorei choir, heading to the mountains, and travelling to sunny destinations. She is also an author with several works published. Her two cats can’t go on many adventures with her, but she is delighted to share most of them with her partner and their son. |
Luna
Reception + Wellness Break Enforcer
Luna has been training for her career at MMADE DESIGN since she was a newly rescued pup. There is just no substitute for natural talent, and Luna has it in leaps and bounds. Literally.
Every successful company knows that you can’t put a price on a warm welcome as soon as a client enters, and Luna is only too happy to oblige. None of the false smiles and weirdly cheerful voices with her. Whether in person or popping up in a virtual meeting, you’ll get such genuine affection from the depths of her big golden eyes to the end of her wagging tail that you’ll wish all receptionists were dogs. When it comes time to take a break from work, Luna is on it. She reminds workers of the importance of frequent stretching, and her yawns are the cue to step away from the computer for a good ear-scratching or belly-rub. |
