Melody Lane
This PEI bungalow needed to expand and transform to fulfill the day-to-day requirements of a growing family.
An addition at the front of the house opens the space to focus on the most used aspects of home life. The vaulted kitchen ceiling gives visual height, while large windows accentuate the space and provide plenty of natural light. Dedicated island seating encourages the family to gather, and a banquette provides a place for cozy everyday dining. Built-in storage keeps the space organized and easy wipe surfaces make cleaning up a breeze. A bar area and coffee station with a mini fridge between the dining and living room makes entertaining in either space convenient.
The transitional spaces include widened entries to provide better maneuverability, and the floor plan includes a new mudroom with benches, closets, and shoe storage keeps entryways clear without sacrificing the essentials of work and play. The layout of the bedrooms were optimized to provide ensuite bathrooms, walk-in closets, and extra storage to minimize visual clutter and provide more functional and welcoming spaces.
Inspired by the nearby ocean, a palette of light, bright finishes, natural materials in wood, white, and cream, and the careful addition of accent colors in varying shades of blue make this home feel like a beachside retreat.
